On Monday, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR (TSM.US) rose during intraday trading. As of press time, it was up about 1.4% at $479, with a market capitalization of about $2.49 trillion, hitting a record high. On the news front, according to media reports, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR is evaluating cooperation with Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's Terafab super wafer fab project in Texas to establish advanced end-to-end semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the United States. In response, Musk personally confirmed the news on the social media platform "X." Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR officially maintained its usual low profile and made no public response.
Several industry sources told the media that the two sides have indeed been in contact, but a signing is still "very far away," and it currently looks more like a "dating stage." The proposal envisions Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR being responsible for developing wafer manufacturing capacity, while Terafab would provide funding support, equity investment, purchase agreements, and other supporting conditions needed to ensure the operation of the new wafer fab's capacity. The form of cooperation between the two sides has not yet been determined.
