HKEX (00388) CEO Bonnie Chan, speaking at the Global Youth Power Summit, said that investors are currently paying a great deal of attention to sectors such as technology and AI, and IPO demand in these sectors is very strong. She noted that among HKEX's average daily turnover, the share of technology stocks has grown from about 20% a few years ago to about 43% at present, in line with global investment trends. Chan mentioned that the group has continuously carried out market reforms and maintained relevant competitiveness, citing Chapter 18C of the Main Board Listing Rules as an example, and pointed out that the group is able to formulate chapters that meet the specific needs of different types of companies.
Regarding some investors saying they are now beginning to find that the US market has become somewhat overly concentrated in the AI sector, Chan believes that the basic function of the capital market is to match capital with opportunities, and expressed the hope that the market can be inclusive. She said the group is focused on ensuring that while it welcomes all technology and AI companies, it will not do so at the expense of other industries or companies with somewhat smaller market capitalizations.
