John Lee: Cross-departmental coordination for the National Day Golden Week; will crack down hard on undesirable practices such as forced shopping.
John Lee stated that with the National Day Golden Week approaching, there will be cross-departmental coordination meetings, and when the Golden Week begins, the Security Bureau's Emergency Support Centre will also be activated.
Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said in response to a reporter's question that the National Day Golden Week is approaching, and there will be a cross-departmental coordination meeting. When the Golden Week begins, the government's Security Bureau Incident Support Centre will also be activated. He mentioned that information dissemination will be strengthened, including weather, traffic arrangements, and attraction information, and that police and attraction management manpower will be increased.
As for the implementation of reservation-based visits to Po Pin Chau, John Lee Ka-chiu said that operations were smooth in the initial period, and that more people are expected during the Golden Week, so he hopes even more to manage crowds through a registration method. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department will also increase manpower to remind tourists to protect the environment, handle rubbish, and ensure order, and to assist visitors in using the registration system.
Regarding forced shopping by tour groups, John Lee Ka-chiu pointed out that the situation has a negative impact on Hong Kong's overall tourism reputation and that there will definitely be a crackdown. For travel agencies or tour guides, powers will be invoked to take action, including canceling the registration of the travel agency or tour guide concerned if there is indeed a violation. Registered shops will also be targeted in accordance with the law to ensure visitors have a good experience.
