On September 15, the National Bureau of Statistics released the basic situation of national fixed asset investment from January to August 2026. From January to August, national fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) was 29,309.2 billion yuan, down 7.2 percent year on year (calculated on a comparable basis). Among them, investment in intellectual property products increased by 9.2 percent year on year. By industry, investment in the primary industry was 583.2 billion yuan, down 2.4 percent year on year; investment in the secondary industry was 11,309.4 billion yuan, down 2.9 percent; and investment in the tertiary industry was 17,416.6 billion yuan, down 9.9 percent. Industrial investment fell 2.9 percent year on year. Among them, investment in mining grew 3.4 percent, investment in manufacturing fell 2.3 percent, and investment in the production and supply of electricity, heat, gas and water fell 6.9 percent. Infrastructure investment (see Note 1 for the scope) fell 4.0 percent year on year. Among them, investment in the information transmission industry grew 28.4 percent, investment in the air transport industry grew 16.7 percent, and investment in the water transport industry grew 14.7 percent. By region, investment in the eastern region fell 9.4 percent year on year, investment in the central region fell 8.7 percent, investment in the western region fell 8.8 percent, and investment in the northeastern region fell 25.5 percent. By registration status, fixed asset investment by domestic enterprises fell 7.1 percent year on year, fixed asset investment by Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan-invested enterprises fell 6.9 percent, and fixed asset investment by foreign-invested enterprises fell 4.3 percent. From January to August, private fixed asset investment fell 10.1 percent year on year. On a month-on-month basis, fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) in August fell 0.5 percent.
