Recently, a study titled "Optimal doses of cognitive digital therapeutics for pediatric patients with cognitive impairments: A retrospective study based on big data," conducted jointly by Professor Ni Xin's team from Beijing Children's Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University and our group's research team, was published in the international top-tier comprehensive medical journal "BMC Medicine" (2025 Journal Impact Factor: 8.7).
This study is a retrospective analysis based on real-world big data, including 38,526 children and adolescents (ages 3-18) with cognitive impairments who completed at least two weeks of training using our group's "Brain Function Information Management Platform Software System" (Class II medical device, Hunan Medical Device Registration: 20182210142) from 2021 to 2025. The study systematically illustrates the dose-response relationships across three dimensions: daily training duration, weekly training frequency, and total training period. The platform includes 123 tasks adapted from classical paradigms, covering four major cognitive domains: perception, attention, memory, and executive function. The study uses average cognitive index (MCI) as the primary outcome measure, reflecting performance in comprehensive tasks during training.
Key findings:
(1) Optimal daily dose for the overall population: Taking 0-4 minutes per day as a baseline, significant improvements were only observed with single-day training exceeding 8 minutes, with the highest cognitive performance corresponding to daily training of 16-20 minutes, which is the optimal daily dose for the overall population. Extending single-day training time beyond this range did not yield additional significant benefits.
(2) Age and gender stratification differences: The four subgroups displayed different optimal daily and total doses.
(3) Weekly training frequency: The highest cognitive performance in all four subgroups occurred with training every day of the week; most subgroups required at least 5 days of training per week to show significant improvements.
(4) Total intervention period: Regardless of age and gender, children who trained for more than one month showed significant cognitive improvements compared to those who trained for less than one month.
The study concludes that this is the first large-scale research defining age and gender-specific optimal digital training doses for pediatric patients with cognitive impairments. It provides robust evidence for personalized cognitive digital therapy interventions and serves as a reference for the development of future treatment guidelines.
This research, based on real-world data from 38,526 children, systematically defines the optimal digital training doses for different ages and genders for the first time, filling a research gap in the dose-response relationship in the field of childrens cognitive digital therapies, providing evidence-based support for personalized precision interventions.
