National Bureau of Statistics: In August, the PPI rose 3.8% year-on-year and 0.4% month-on-month.
From January to August, the average producer prices for industrial products increased by 2.0% compared to the same period last year, while the purchase prices for industrial producers rose by 3.2%.
On September 9, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that in August 2026, the national industrial producer price index increased by 3.8% year-on-year and 0.4% month-on-month. The purchase price index for industrial producers rose by 5.8% year-on-year and 0.3% month-on-month. On average from January to August, the industrial producer price index was up by 2.0% compared to the same period last year, while the purchase price index increased by 3.2%.
I. Year-on-Year Changes in Industrial Producer Prices
In August, among industrial producer ex-factory prices, the price of production materials increased by 5.0% year-on-year, contributing approximately 3.92 percentage points to the overall increase in industrial producer ex-factory prices. Specifically, prices in the mining industry rose by 17.8%, raw materials industries by 6.7%, and processing industries by 3.1%. Conversely, the prices of consumer goods decreased by 0.5%, leading to a decrease of approximately 0.10 percentage points in the overall level of industrial producer ex-factory prices. Within this category, food prices fell by 2.3%, clothing prices dropped by 1.2%, general daily necessities decreased by 0.8%, while durable consumer goods prices increased by 1.2%.
In terms of purchase prices for industrial producers, the prices of non-ferrous metal materials and wires increased by 19.8%, fuel and power prices rose by 9.8%, chemical raw materials prices went up by 9.5%, textile raw materials increased by 3.8%, and prices of ferrous metal materials rose by 0.3%. On the other hand, the prices of building materials and non-metallic products fell by 3.2%, and the prices of agricultural and sideline products decreased by 0.5%.
II. Month-on-Month Changes in Industrial Producer Prices
In August, among industrial producer ex-factory prices, the price of production materials rose by 0.4% month-on-month, contributing approximately 0.32 percentage points to the overall increase in industrial producer ex-factory prices. Specifically, prices in the mining industry increased by 2.7%, raw materials industries by 0.8%, while processing industries remained unchanged. Consumer goods prices grew by 0.2%, adding about 0.04 percentage points to the overall increase in industrial producer ex-factory prices. Within this category, food and clothing prices remained stable, while prices of general daily necessities decreased by 0.2%, and durable consumer goods prices rose by 0.6%.
In terms of purchase prices for industrial producers, fuel and power prices increased by 1.4%, non-ferrous metal materials and wires prices rose by 0.8%, and textile raw materials prices went up by 0.6%. Meanwhile, prices of ferrous metal materials decreased by 0.6%, and chemical raw materials prices fell by 0.4%. Prices of agricultural and sideline products, as well as building materials and non-metallic products, remained unchanged.
