On September 7, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced that Hong Kong's official foreign exchange reserve assets at the end of August 2026 were USD 442.9 billion (compared to USD 447.9 billion at the end of July 2026), which is more than five times the currency in circulation in Hong Kong, or about 37% of the M3 money supply in Hong Kong. There were no outstanding foreign exchange contracts at the end of August and July 2026.
