Hong Kong Banking Association: The global financial landscape is changing, and Hong Kong has become the world's largest cross-border wealth management center.
The global financial landscape is shifting, and international investors increasingly value Hong Kong's enduring advantagesstability, connectivity, and the unwavering support of the country.
On September 4, the Hong Kong Association of Banks held its annual "Excellence Lecture and Luncheon." Sun Yu, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Banks and Vice Chairman and President of BOC HONG KONG (02388), stated that 2026 is a pivotal year. The global financial landscape is shifting, and international investors are increasingly valuing Hong Kong's enduring advantagesstability, connectivity, and the unwavering support from the nation. Rising investor confidence has propelled Hong Kong beyond Switzerland to become the world's largest cross-border wealth management center. Meanwhile, Hong Kong is further solidifying its position as a financial hub by advancing initiatives such as the gold settlement system and five-year government bond futures.
He emphasized that the Hong Kong Association of Banks has consistently supported the real economy, especially through platforms such as the Financial Advisory Task Force for the Northern Metropolis and the SME Transformation Forum. The Association also fulfills its social responsibility by conducting anti-fraud education and timely assisting those affected by the Tai Po fire, in coordination with government rescue efforts.
Looking ahead, he mentioned that Hong Kong is entering a period of unprecedented transformation, where old scripts no longer apply. This year, as geopolitical tensions rise, prices have paradoxically fallen, defying traditional wisdom. This means that even if traders accurately anticipate a crisis, they may still incur losses. In an uncertain world, the best response is to remain focused, strengthen one's advantages, and actively shape the future.
The first five-year plan for Hong Kong is about to be released. Sun Yu announced that the "Hong Kong Banking Industry 2030" report, prepared by the Hong Kong Association of Banks in collaboration with Deloitte, will be published on September 11, offering recommendations on promoting the development of the banking industry and supporting Hong Kong in solidifying and enhancing its status as an international financial center.
