After the market closed on September 3, Eastern Time, enterprise automation software company UiPath (PATH.US) released its financial report for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027. Although revenue exceeded expectations and the company raised its full-year guidance, UiPath's stock price experienced significant volatility in after-hours trading. This trend indicates that investors' focus has clearly shifted beyond just the single-quarter revenue beats to the companys ARR growth momentum, the path to AI monetization, and the overall growth outlook. The financial report showed that for the second fiscal quarter ending July 31, 2026, UiPath achieved revenue of $410.26 million, a 13% increase from approximately $363 million in the same period last year. This figure surpassed the general market expectation of $397.77 million. The company stated that the revenue growth was mainly boosted by stable demand and a weakening foreign exchange headwind. The adjusted earnings per share were $0.15, fully aligning with analysts' expectations of $0.15. On a GAAP basis, the company reported an operating profit of $32 million, marking its fourth consecutive quarter of GAAP profitability. In terms of annual recurring revenue, UiPath reported an ARR of $1.938 billion, a 12% increase year-over-year. The net new ARR rose from $31 million in the previous quarter to $37 million, showing improvement sequentially. Although the absolute size of net new ARR remains relatively modest, management emphasized that the trend of this metric is steadily upward. Regarding customer structure, UiPath indicated that its client base is increasingly concentrating on large accounts. The number of customers with ARR of $100,000 and above grew by 10% year-on-year to 2,666; the number of large customers with ARR of $1 million and above grew by 21% year-on-year to 387. The company added that customer attrition is primarily concentrated among smaller clients. Looking ahead, UiPath raised its full-year guidance, expecting revenue between $1.789 billion and $1.794 billion, higher than the previous guidance range of about $1.776 billion to $1.781 billion, and above the market expectation of around $1.78 billion. The non-GAAP operating profit is expected to be approximately $445 million; adjusted free cash flow is about $425 million; and the gross margin is around 84%. Additionally, the company anticipates that the full-year ARR will reach $2.065 billion to $2.07 billion, exceeding the previous forecast of approximately $2.06 billion. Management indicated that the company is on track to achieve an ARR milestone of over $2 billion in the fiscal year 2027. For the third quarter of the fiscal year 2027, the company expects revenue to be between $440 million and $445 million, exceeding analysts expectations of about $441.8 million; the non-GAAP operating profit is projected to be around $100 million; the ARR is expected to be between $1.992 billion and $1.997 billion. Accompanying the financial report was a series of executive changes. Hitesh Ramani was officially promoted to Chief Financial Officer, having previously held significant responsibilities within the finance team. Ashim Gupta continues to serve as Chief Operating Officer. Brad Brubaker was appointed Chief Legal and Administrative Officer, with responsibilities further expanded beyond his original role. Additionally, Kaiser Permanente executive Yazdi Bagli joined UiPath's board of directors. In the earnings call, Ramani stated that the company's platform strategy is gaining recognition from customers, a sentiment also reflected in the related guidance. He emphasized that the company is guiding based on what we are seeing in the real world while maintaining a cautious outlook. Gupta expressed that the overall business execution is improving, with the trend in net retention rates moving steadily upward, and there is an increasing demand from customers for a broader platform that combines probabilistic and deterministic automation. AI has become the core of major transactions in UiPath UiPath highlighted the penetration of AI in its business within the earnings report. CEO Daniel Dines noted that 18 of the top 20 transactions in the quarter included AI, underscoring the central role of AI in significant customer collaborations. He stated, Use AI where intelligence creates value, and use deterministic automation where precision is crucial. This strategy aims to help customers achieve higher scalable return on investment while maintaining process control. Dines further explained that UiPath is repositioning itself as a business orchestration platform, rather than just a task automation tool. The company can integrate AI agents, Siasun Robot & Automation, systems, and personnel to execute complex business processes end-to-end. This positioning is gradually gaining recognition among large enterprise clients in financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and the public sector. On the product front, Dines revealed that coding agents are reducing implementation workload by nearly 60%, which is expected to significantly shorten the value realization period for clients and lower overall ownership costs. Analysts focused on whether AI is changing the sales model during the call. Dines indicated that the company is shifting towards more scenario-based sales and is committed to guiding clients on when to use AI and when to rely on deterministic automation. He mentioned that clients want to keep workflows under their control, with AI operating within the business framework. In terms of pricing, UiPath is exploring volume-based and outcome-based pricing models for its intelligent agent products, showing that the company is still refining the monetization strategy for its new AI products. This implies that while AI-related revenues are growing rapidly, a fully standardized pricing system has not yet been established, and the market will require time to validate its AI monetization capabilities. After the financial report was released, the stock price initially surged over 13% due to revenue exceeding expectations and the upward revision of full-year guidance. However, this upward momentum could not be sustained, and as investors further digested the report's details, especially regarding the pace of ARR growth, the absolute scale of net new ARR, and the progress of AI monetization, market sentiment swiftly turned cautious. The stock price subsequently retraced all gains and turned negative, currently down about 8% as of the time of this report. Over the past 12 months, UiPath has risen nearly 70%, yet the increase since the beginning of 2026 has been only about 12%, reflecting ongoing market concerns over the potential impact of AI on software companies' revenue models. Although UiPath has consistently emphasized that AI will enhance demand for its Siasun Robot & Automation process automation technology, investors remain reserved regarding the long-term competitiveness of traditional RPA vendors in the context of the rapid evolution of generative AI and intelligent agents. UiPath plans to hold an Investor Day event in Las Vegas on September 22, followed by the FUSION User Conference from September 23 to 25. The market is expected to gain more detailed insights into the company's long-term strategy, AI product roadmap, and financial goals at that time.
