The revised draft of the Road Traffic Safety Law adds specific provisions regarding autonomous vehicles.
On August 25, the revised draft of the Road Traffic Safety Law, submitted for the first review at the 14th National People's Congress Standing Committee meeting, includes a special chapter on "Specific Provisions for Autonomous Vehicles." It clarifies the concepts of autonomous vehicles and driver assistance functions, stating that if a traffic safety violation occurs while the autonomous driving function is activated, the responsibility will fall on the manufacturers or importers of the autonomous vehicles. Autonomous vehicles with the autonomous driving function not activated, as well as vehicles that only possess driver assistance features, will be managed according to the regulations for non-autonomous vehicles.
