$60 billion tech acquisition finalized, Musk officially enters the "Vibe Coding" battlefield.

SpaceX (SPCX.US) has completed the acquisition of AI programming startup Cursor, marking an important step for Elon Musk in catching up to competitors like Anthropic and OpenAI. According to regulatory documents, the transaction officially took effect on August 14. Cursor also announced on its official website that it has officially been acquired by SpaceX; the acquisition process began in April this year when the two companies announced a partnership to accelerate model training. Two months ago, SpaceX formally agreed to acquire Cursor to enhance its competitiveness in the programming tools sector. The deal is valued at $60 billion, making it one of the largest acquisitions in the tech industry. Programming is currently a lucrative market in AI applications. Musk's AI business is now known as SpaceXAI, which previously had limited applications in the corporate market and underwent a series of layoffs and organizational restructuring. Earlier this month, Musk stated in a SpaceX employee meeting that the company "must succeed in the software field." Musk also emphasized that artificial intelligence is at the core of SpaceX's current and future development. He remarked at the meeting, "By September, our AI revenue will exceed all of SpaceX's other revenues." Cursor launched its AI assistant in 2023, designed to help programmers write and debug code more efficiently. Since then, it has risen at a historic pace, becoming a central player in the tech industry's "vibe coding" era. With the completion of the transaction, Cursor's co-founders will become billionaires, and the startup's team will be able to leverage a vast array of advanced AI chips from SpaceX's reserves. Cursor stated in a blog post: "We will be able to use the worlds largest GPU cluster to gain more computing power, build stronger models, and reduce the operational costs of those models." In July, prior to the formal completion of the deal, SpaceX and Cursor jointly launched the first model, Grok 4.5. The two companies claimed that Grok 4.5 focuses on tasks in programming, finance, law, etc., and operates at a lower cost than competing models. Subsequently, SpaceX launched Grok Bot, a product capable of continuously receiving and executing various tasks throughout the day like a team of AI agents. In addition, the company has released an upgraded version of the Grok 4.6 model. Aside from Cursor, SpaceX has also secured a series of multi-billion dollar deals, enabling companies like Anthropic and Alphabet Inc. Class C to utilize its computing resources.
