The profit forecast released by the cybersecurity company Cloudflare (NET.US) this year surpassed Wall Street's estimates, indicating that the demand for online services continues to accelerate in the context of the rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence.
Network security company Cloudflare (NET.US) has announced that its profit expectations for this year have exceeded Wall Street's estimates, indicating a continued acceleration in demand for online services against the backdrop of rapid AI adoption. The financial report shows that the companys revenue for the second quarter reached $696.1 million, a year-on-year increase of 35.9%, surpassing expectations by $29.75 million; adjusted earnings per share were $0.29, exceeding expectations by $0.02. Cloudflare now expects its adjusted earnings per share for the full year to be between $1.25 and $1.26, up from the previous estimate of $1.19 to $1.20. The average expectation among analysts is $1.20. "We delivered an outstanding second quarter," said CEO Matthew Prince in a statement. In May, Cloudflare indicated that as part of its shift to an "AI-first" operational model, the company would cut one-fifth of its workforce. The second quarter's performance exceeded expectations, indicating that its workforce reduction and strategic transformation have not affected growth. As of Thursday's close, the company's stock price has risen 44% this year, surpassing the Russell 1000 Index's 12% gain. Investors have shown a strong interest in large cybersecurity companies this year, anticipating that AI will expand the demand for digital defense. As businesses adapt to the widespread application of AI models, data, and software, many industry giants have outperformed the broader market. These gains also reflect that security vendors are embedding AI into their products to automate threat detection and responsedespite AI models uncovering numerous computer vulnerabilities that businesses are struggling to fix. Prince stated, "As the internet shifts to AI answer engines and agent-driven business models, we are witnessing a fundamental restructuring of the internet towards machine-to-machine traffic." Among other companies in the cybersecurity industry, Fortinet has raised its full-year revenue outlook, while Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. has maintained its previous forecast. TD Cowen noted that Check Point's performance has been mixed, as the company is dealing with internal issues. Analyst Mandip Singh commented that Fortinet's strong performance relative to Check Point reflects the growth momentum of its newly defined SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) and firewall businesses.
