The AI competition continues to heat up as Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US) activates its largest data center in India.

As the global artificial intelligence (AI) competition continues to heat up, technology giants are speeding up their efforts to capture high-growth emerging markets. Microsoft Corporation (MSFT.US) launched its largest data center in India on Thursday in Hyderabad, with Adani Group and HDFC Bank Limited Sponsored ADR being early users of the project. This move will help Microsoft Corporation capture market share in Indias rapidly growing AI sector. The activation of this data center in central-southern India expands Microsoft Corporation's cloud service presence in the country to four locations. Coupled with the already operational data centers in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai, it further consolidates Microsoft Corporation's position as the largest cloud computing service provider in India. The Windows system vendor has committed approximately $20.5 billion to expand its business in India, anchoring on the vast base of over one billion internet users and a rich pool of tech talent. Microsoft Corporation stated that its cloud computing service Azure has achieved double-digit revenue growth in the Indian market for two consecutive years. Microsoft Corporation has also partnered with Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambanis Jio to jointly operate two data centers in India. Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft Corporation India, remarked, "Creating value through AI requires deploying trusted infrastructure close to data storage, team collaboration, and business decision-making." He added that the new facility is a key component of this strategy. The massive user base and AI market potential in India have attracted global tech giants to enter the fray, intensifying competition in the arena. Major companies like Alphabet Inc. Class C parent Alphabet and Amazon.com, Inc. are also increasing investments in data centers in India. However, the infrastructure layout of overseas giants in India has not been smooth sailing, with related projects sparking industry controversies. For instance, concerning Alphabet Inc. Class Cs data center planning project in India, environmentalists have questioned the fast-paced approval process, arguing that it did not sufficiently assess the potential negative impacts of operating large data centers on local water resources and the ecological environment, while Indian officials have denied such controversies.
