Macau Monetary Authority: In June, both the deposits and loans of Macau residents declined month-on-month.

The statistics released by the Monetary Authority of Macao on August 3 show that the broad money supply fell in June 2026.
On August 3, the Monetary Authority of Macao released the currency and financial statistics for June 2026. The broad money supply in June 2026 has declined. At the same time, resident deposits and loans both decreased month-on-month. Money Supply The currency in circulation and demand deposits fell by 1.2% and 1.0%, respectively, resulting in a month-on-month decrease of 1.1% in M1. Meanwhile, quasi-money liabilities declined by 1.8%, causing the broad money supply M2, which includes M1 and quasi-money liabilities, to drop by 1.7% to 847.6 billion patacas. An analysis by currency shows that the shares of patacas, Hong Kong dollars, renminbi, and US dollars in M2 are 32.4%, 43.2%, 8.0%, and 14.6%, respectively. Deposits Resident deposits decreased by 1.7% month-on-month to 825.3 billion patacas, while non-resident deposits increased by 11.6% to 379.5 billion patacas. At the same time, deposits from the public sector in the banking system rose by 3.0% to 269.8 billion patacas. Overall, total deposits in the banking system increased by 2.3% to 1,474.7 billion patacas; of which, the shares of patacas, Hong Kong dollars, renminbi, and US dollars are 18.6%, 44.1%, 9.4%, and 26.3%, respectively. Loans Loans to the local private sector decreased by 0.7% month-on-month to 476.5 billion patacas. An analysis by economic purpose shows that at the end of the second quarter of 2026, bank loans to the "water, electricity, and gas supply industry" and the "wholesale and retail industry" increased by 7.8% and 2.1% quarter-on-quarter, respectively, while loans to the "restaurant and hotel industry" and the "construction industry" recorded declines of 6.2% and 3.3%, respectively. Additionally, loans to the external sector increased by 0.4% month-on-month to 563.6 billion patacas. In total, loans in the banking system decreased by 0.1% to 1,040.1 billion patacas; among them, the shares of patacas, Hong Kong dollars, renminbi, and US dollars are 22.1%, 40.2%, 16.3%, and 17.5%, respectively. Operational Ratios As of the end of June 2026, the overall loan-to-deposit ratio for banks fell from 72.2% at the end of May to 70.5%, while the loan-to-deposit ratio for local residents remained stable at 43.5%. The liquidity assets to liabilities ratios calculated over one month and three months are at levels of 59.0% and 48.6%, respectively. Furthermore, the non-performing loan ratio remained stable at 4.5% month-on-month.
