On July 24, CATHAY PAC AIR (00293) announced that due to recent increases in aviation fuel prices, it will increase passenger fuel surcharges starting from August 1, 2026. Cathay emphasized that this adjustment is the first increase since April, and the adjusted fees will still be lower than the peak in April. For long-haul flights to and from Hong Kong and Southwest The Pacific, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the fuel surcharge will increase significantly from 965 Hong Kong dollars to 1362 Hong Kong dollars, a 41% increase. As for short-haul flights, the surcharge for flights from Hong Kong to mainland China will increase by 33 Hong Kong dollars to 198 Hong Kong dollars, a 20% increase. Flights to and from South Asia will see an increase from 448 Hong Kong dollars to 633 Hong Kong dollars, and other routes will increase from 241 Hong Kong dollars to 339 Hong Kong dollars. Cathay stated that the current fee mechanism can effectively and timely reflect changes in aviation fuel prices, with the fuel surcharge having been reduced multiple times as oil prices fell earlier this year. Cathay will continue to review the level of the fuel surcharge every two weeks in the future to ensure that fees are in line with the actual market conditions.
