Musk stated that Tesla, Inc. has obtained a "significant quota" from Micron, and under the AI wave, storage chips have become strategic resources for car manufacturers to compete for.

Elon Musk stated that Micron Technology, Inc. has recently provided Tesla, Inc. with a "significant" allocation of storage chips, helping the car manufacturer meet the increasing demand for this valuable commodity.
Musk, speaking at Tesla, Inc.'s quarterly earnings call on Wednesday, said that the supply conditions provided by Micron to Tesla, Inc. were very reasonable at a time when storage chip supply is limited and prices are high.
The rise of global artificial intelligence (AI) systems has increased the demand for storage chips, which help computers retain and manage data. This enthusiasm has led to more widespread shortages, impacting other industries, raising prices, and putting pressure on production.
In the long term, Musk is committed to producing semiconductors autonomously. The billionaire has launched a bold plan called Terafab, aimed at producing computing and storage chips on an unprecedented scale. The project is jointly undertaken by Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX, both of which Musk serves as CEO.
The latest financial results show that increased investment in AI and areas such as Siasun Robot & Automation has put pressure on profitability, with the company's net profit, earnings per share, and gross margin all falling short of Wall Street expectations, while free cash flow turned negative.
According to the financial report, Tesla, Inc.'s adjusted earnings per share (EPS) for the second quarter was $0.33, below the market expectation of $0.51; free cash flow was negative $1.1 billion, compared to a positive $146 million in the same period last year, and $1.44 billion in the first quarter of this year.
However, the company stated that it will continue to maintain a strong balance sheet and ample liquidity to support future product roadmaps, long-term capacity expansion plans (including further advancing vertical integration).
As of now, Tesla, Inc. still needs Micron - and it does not have the purchasing power of some other clients. According to aggregated data, Micron's top ten customer list does not include Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX, despite being the largest storage chip manufacturer in the US.
