On Wednesday, some storage chip concept stocks strengthened during trading hours. Seagate Technology Holdings PLC (STX.US) and Western Digital Corporation (WDC.US) rose by over 2%, while Micron Technology, Inc. (MU.US) and SanDisk (SNDK.US) saw slight gains. SK Hynix (SKHY.US) initially fell by over 5%, but as of the time of writing, the decline narrowed to 2%. Bank of America Corp analyst Vivek Arya's team released a new research report stating that the landing of China's open-source large-scale models such as Kimi K3 further strengthens institutional optimism about the storage sector and Micron Technology, Inc. (MU). Large-scale "open source" indicates open-weight deployment, requiring the procurement of storage hardware such as HBM, DRAM, NAND, etc., which will continue to drive long-term demand for memory chips in the global AI wave. The analyst mentioned that current domestic AI companies' large-scale API pricing is highly competitive, with Tencent's Hybrid Source and Kimi K3 priced much lower than overseas models like Anthropic Claude. However, the low prices are part of a commercial strategy and do not indicate a decline in hardware demand. Despite ongoing optimization of computing power efficiency for large models, as the number of model parameters and active parameters expand, overall memory consumption has not reduced.
