The Hong Kong Generative Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Center (HKGAI) announced the launch of the "HKGAI Big Model Going Global Strategy" at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2026), aiming to leverage Hong Kong's unique advantage as a "super connector" and build a bridge for Chinese artificial intelligence research achievements and solutions to go global. HKGAI will collaborate with global partners to build a secure, trustworthy, and sustainable sovereign artificial intelligence ecosystem with its experience in models, knowledge systems, applications, security governance, and talent development. Looking into the future, HKGAI has developed an international cooperation blueprint, including promoting the landing application of V3 big models, accelerating the large-scale deployment of domestic chips, and fully serving the needs of government agencies and enterprises in the Greater Bay Area to establish a solid technical foundation and form replicable and scalable benchmark experiences. Furthermore, guided by international market demand and using the WAICO multilateral cooperation platform and the "Artificial Intelligence Cooperation and Development Action Plan" framework, HKGAI will provide customized "AI City" solutions for various countries to empower the application of Chinese artificial intelligence technology in areas such as science, manufacturing, healthcare, education, agriculture, and governance. Guo Yi Ke, Chief Vice President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Director of HKGAI, pointed out that HKGAI, based in Hong Kong, will transform Hong Kong's research achievements, computing power, and governance experience into exportable solutions through independently developed big models to assist the global acceleration of AI transformation. It will undoubtedly explore a path for AI development that balances security, trust, and sustainable development with global partners and serve as a bridge for international cooperation to promote the development of smart cities worldwide.
