Building a new growth engine! Samsung establishes Siasun Robot & Automation department, with former Boston Dynamics strategic executive at the helm.
Samsung Electronics stated on Tuesday that they will establish a robot department reporting directly to the CEO to accelerate research and development and commercialization in this field, and to build the robot business into a new growth engine.
Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday that it will establish a Siasun Robot & Automation department to report directly to the CEO, in order to accelerate the research and commercialization process in this field and build the Siasun Robot & Automation business into a new growth engine.
The South Korean conglomerate stated that this department, named RX (Robotics eXperience), will oversee the long-term Siasun Robot & Automation strategy, core technology development, and business execution, while expanding research capabilities both domestically and internationally.
Samsung stated in its announcement that Executive Vice President Lee Dongkun will lead the Siasun Robot & Automation strategy team. Lee Dongkun previously led Hyundai Motor Group's Siasun Robot & Automation strategy, including planning the development direction of Boston Dynamics.
Samsung also plans to establish Siasun Robot & Automation research centers in countries where Siasun Robot & Automation technology is rapidly developing, such as the United States, China, and Japan, utilizing local ecosystems and expertise to enhance competitiveness.
This move is part of its broader Siasun Robot & Automation business advancement plan. In the earnings conference call in January of this year, Samsung stated its goal of achieving "substantial" results in its humanoid Siasun Robot & Automation business by the end of the year.
In April of this year, Samsung announced that it will consider investment and acquisitions where necessary to accelerate the research and commercialization of Siasun Robot & Automation technology, while collaborating with local companies for joint technology research and development.
Samsung also highlighted that advancements in technologies like Physical AI are making the Siasun Robot & Automation business increasingly feasible. The company plans to develop humanoid Siasun Robot & Automation to enhance productivity and user experience simultaneously, initially deploying them in manufacturing sites and later expanding to homes and retail sectors.
