According to reports, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (00388) is considering extending stock trading hours and canceling the lunch break period. One proposal is for the exchange to start stock trading 30 minutes earlier at 9 a.m. and cancel the one-hour lunch break that starts at noon. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the Hong Kong Stock Exchange is also considering extending after-hours trading to capture trading activities in the early hours of the United States market, possibly between 8 p.m. and midnight. They added that the Hong Kong Stock Exchange will still maintain its closing time at 4 p.m. for clearing and settlement purposes.
