STMicroelectronics NV ADR RegS (STM.US) launched the ST54M secure mobile chip on June 24th, aiming to help smartphone and personal electronic device manufacturers prepare in advance for quantum-safe protection systems, while ensuring a secure user experience for cross-network services. It is introduced as the world's first solution to integrate post-quantum cryptography (PQC) hardware accelerator in a single chip, marking the official entry of mobile security technology into the "quantum-ready" era. As of the time of writing, STMicroelectronics NV ADR RegS stock price rose by 0.79% in pre-market trading, at $73. The ST54M integrates Near Field Communication (NFC), Secure Element, and eSIM functionality into one chip. This chip can be widely used in various scenarios of the personal electronic ecosystem, covering mobile network operators, banks, government agencies, public transport operators, car manufacturers, digital wallets, and various service providers. With the rapid development of quantum computing technology, traditional encryption algorithms face the risk of being compromised in the future. It is expected that industry-driven, mandatory post-quantum security deployment requirements will be formally implemented around 2030. The ST54M has started sampling and is expected to obtain Common Criteria 2022 EUCC and EMVCo certification by July 2026, and begin mass production. David Richetto, Vice President and General Manager of the Connected Secure Business Division at STMicroelectronics NV ADR RegS, said, "By integrating the PQC hardware accelerator with NFC, embedded Secure Element, and eSIM functionality, the ST54M provides device manufacturers with a secure path to the next generation of mobile experiences."
