Meta Platforms announced on Tuesday that the monthly active users (MAU) of its social platform Threads has surpassed 500 million.
Meta Platforms (META.US) announced on Tuesday that its social platform Threads has surpassed 500 million monthly active users (MAU). As the user base continues to grow, the company is introducing a series of new features to further strengthen community building and user interaction experiences.
Meta stated that the growth of Threads users reflects the ongoing demand in the market for social platforms centered around open discussions and community exchange. Currently, popular topics on the platform cover a variety of areas including books, sports, parenting, and music.
To celebrate surpassing 500 million monthly active users, Threads is also launching several product updates. Among them, the most anticipated is the new "Community Center" feature, which integrates various interest communities into the main navigation menu to help users discover and participate in relevant discussions more easily.
At the same time, the platform has introduced custom community icons and a new community recommendation tool to increase community exposure and attract more users to engage in interactions.
In terms of user incentives, Threads has further expanded its support for active users. The platform has added a "Community Star" feature to recognize users who actively participate in community building. Additionally, the newly launched "Community Progress" feature can display the level of activity required for a specific discussion topic to officially upgrade to an independent community.
In addition to upgrading community features, Threads has also enhanced the controllability of its content recommendation algorithm.
The company has introduced a new tool called "Your Algo" which allows users to customize the direction and display proportion of content in their information stream within a 1-day, 3-day, or 7-day time period, providing a more personalized browsing experience.
This feature is a further upgrade based on the "Dear Algo" feature introduced in February of this year, aimed at enhancing users' control over the platform's algorithm recommendation mechanism. In addition, Threads has stated that real-time chat functionality will be opened to more communities in the coming weeks, further enhancing the real-time interaction abilities among users.
Since its launch, Threads has been seen as one of Meta's key strategic moves in the social media field. With the monthly active users surpassing 500 million, Threads has become one of the fastest-growing social platforms globally. This ongoing emphasis on community ecosystem development also demonstrates Meta's desire to further enhance the platform's long-term competitiveness through strengthening user stickiness and interaction depth.
