Sun Dong: Director Xia Baolong's inspection injects a "strong heart needle" for Beidou Chuangke, and will fully promote the construction of three major parks.
Next, the Hong Kong SAR Government will continue to implement Director Xia's instructions, and rally the forces of government, industry, academia, and research. Professor Sun Dong will also lead the Innovation and Technology Bureau of Hong Kong and its colleagues to fully promote the construction of three innovation and technology parks in the northern metropolitan area, namely the Hetao Innovation Field, the Shaling Data Park, and the Yuen Long Microelectronics Industrial Park, actively integrating into and serving the country's modern industrial system, contributing Hong Kong's strength to the country's high-level technological self-reliance.
On June 16, Professor Sunny Chan, Director of the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Bureau, revealed that during his visit to Hong Kong, the Director of the Central Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Xia Baolong, made a special visit to the Hexi Hong Kong Park and Yuen Long Microelectronics R&D Institute. He expressed a high level of concern for Hong Kong's innovation and technology development and explicitly requested to seize the opportunities of the "14th Five-Year Plan" in the coming five years and accelerate the construction of an international innovation and technology center with a sense of urgency. Director Xia's visit can be said to have injected a strong dose of stimulation into Hong Kong's future development of international innovation and technology in the north.
In December of last year, the Hexi Hong Kong Park was successfully opened with the first three buildings being put into use. Over the past six months, the Hong Kong government has actively promoted the construction of the remaining five buildings. The construction progress of the five buildings is progressing well, with Building 1 already completed and soon to be put into use. Currently, the occupancy rate has also reached 75%, and the other four buildings will be completed by the end of this year, with the start of their use scheduled for the first half of next year. The two laboratory buildings that have been completed currently have an occupancy rate close to 100%, with over 90 companies already moved in.
Moving forward, the Hong Kong SAR government will continue to implement the instructions of Director Xia and gather the efforts of the government, industry, academia, and research sectors. Professor Sunny Chan will also lead the staff of the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Bureau to push forward the construction of the three innovation and technology parks in the northern urban areas, including the Hexi and Xin Tian, the Sha Ling Data Park, and the Yuen Long Microelectronics Industrial Park, actively integrating and serving the country's modern industrial system and contributing Hong Kong's strength to the country's construction of a high-level technological self-reliance.
Professor Sunny Chan mentioned in response to questions from reporters that Director Xia Baolong's focus on this visit was the development of the north urban areas, with particular attention to the progress of several innovation and technology projects in the northern urban areas. As for the five-year plan, the Hong Kong SAR government has already begun consultations.
The Hong Kong government has a special chapter on accelerating the construction of an international innovation and technology center and building an international high-end talent gathering hub. Within this chapter, many key measures have been outlined.
In the future, Hong Kong will have many important initiatives in innovation and technology, including focusing on international frontiers, closely aligning with national strategic needs, strengthening Hong Kong's advantage in basic scientific research, constructing a new development pattern for Hong Kong's three major parks and five research institutions at a high level, promoting the coordinated development of upstream, downstream, and midstream industries, as well as actively integrating and serving the country's modern industrial system, promoting new industrialization, accelerating the development of artificial intelligence, and promoting the construction of a smart Hong Kong. These will be the key focuses of the Hong Kong government's work in innovation and technology over the next five years.
