The latest official reserve asset data released by the People's Bank of China shows that the scale of China's gold reserves continues to increase. Since the beginning of this year, the physical quantity of gold added by the central bank has shown a monthly accelerating trend. The data shows that China's gold reserves at the end of May stood at 74.96 million ounces (about 2,331.52 tons), an increase of 320,000 ounces (about 9.95 tons) from the end of April, which was 74.64 million ounces (about 2,321.56 tons). This marks the 19th consecutive month of gold accumulation. The data shows that at the end of January this year, China's gold reserves were 74.19 million ounces. In the following four months, the monthly accumulation continued to expand: - At the end of February, gold reserves were reported at 74.22 million ounces, an increase of 30,000 ounces. - At the end of March, gold reserves were reported at 74.38 million ounces, an increase of 160,000 ounces. - At the end of April, gold reserves were reported at 74.64 million ounces, an increase of 260,000 ounces. - At the end of May, gold reserves were reported at 74.96 million ounces, with an increase of 320,000 ounces. Since February this year, the monthly increase in the central bank's gold reserves has gradually climbed from 30,000 ounces to 320,000 ounces, with the magnitude of accumulation steadily increasing. In addition, in terms of asset valuation, the table data shows that as of the end of May 2026, China's official reserve assets totaled $3,850.586 billion.
