On May 26, the Monetary Authority of Macao announced that in order to support the SAR government's construction of a "smart city" and promote the development of the digital economy, the Monetary Authority of Macao successfully completed the first phase of the construction of the "Digital Macao Pataca" foundation and core system development by the end of 2025.
Currently, the Monetary Authority of Macao is conducting sandbox testing, conducting small-scale transaction testing in designated application scenarios through user whitelist methods, following the principles of security, controllability, caution, and stability, focusing on verifying the efficiency of system operation, business adaptability, and overall operational stability. At present, the various testing works are progressing in an orderly manner, and the operation is stable.
In the future, the Monetary Authority of Macao will gradually expand the scope of sandbox testing, explore diverse application scenarios such as e-government, public transportation, and campuses, and introduce more participating entities to gradually improve the digital Macao Pataca ecosystem.
