Director of Hong Kong Immigration Guo Junfeng will reach retirement age on April 9, 2026, but he has been extended until June 30, 2027. A government spokesperson today stated that the extension of Director Guo Junfeng is to facilitate a smooth handover in the management of the Immigration Department.
The Chief of Discipline Forces in Hong Kong generally retires at the age of 57, and Guo Junfeng, born in 1969, celebrated his birthday this week, meaning he has reached retirement age. When he attended the annual review press conference in February this year, he was asked about his "retirement plan," he said he has not had time to consider future plans and will leave it to his wife to arrange, focusing on his work at the Immigration Department.
Guo Junfeng took office as Director of Hong Kong Immigration in September 2023. During his tenure, he is best known for assisting the government in implementing the "talent attraction" goal. Over the past three years, the Immigration Department has processed over 410,000 applications. Guo Junfeng has used his personal connections to facilitate world-class table tennis players such as "Rocket" Osooli Yun and "Mr. World" Judd Trump to become "new Hong Kongers", promoting table tennis while attracting international stars to Hong Kong due to its cuisine, scenery, and low tax advantages, helping to tell a good Hong Kong story.
