American mortgage financing giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's shares rose by more than 30% at the beginning of trading.
On Monday, American mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae (FNMA.US) and Freddie Mac (FMCC.US) both surged more than 30% in early trading, marking their largest increase since May 2025. Over the weekend, billionaire investor Bill Ackman stated on social media, "Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are incredibly cheap, presenting a classic asymmetric opportunity. They could multiply 10 times, and it could happen quickly." He also said, "Some of the highest quality companies globally are trading at extremely low prices, making it one of the best times in a long time to buy quality assets." However, despite the strong gains on Monday, these two stocks are still down about 60% from their mid-September highs, as market optimism over the Trump administration's plans to release them from government control has dampened.
