The current trend index of small and medium-sized enterprise business profit increased from 43.4 in January 2026 to 45.3 in February 2026, while the business profit outlook trend index for the next month (March 2026) is 47.6.
On March 10, the Hong Kong government's Census and Statistics Department released the results of the monthly survey on the business performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in February 2026. The current trend index of SME business revenue rose from 43.4 in January 2026 in the contraction area to 45.3 in February 2026, while the business revenue outlook index for the next month (March 2026) was 47.6.
According to industry analysis, the current trend index of business revenue in all industries covered in the survey increased in February 2026 compared to the previous month, especially in the retail industry (from 38.4 to 41.4), the catering industry (from 38.6 to 41.4), and the import and export trade industry (from 45.7 to 47.4).
The current trend index of new orders in the import and export trade industry increased from 46.0 in January 2026 to 47.1 in February 2026, while the outlook index for new orders for the next month (March 2026) was 47.9.
A spokesperson for the Hong Kong government stated that the business atmosphere for SMEs improved in February, with both the current and future trend indices of SME business revenue rising to near two-year highs. The current trend index of SME employment also improved compared to the previous month. Looking ahead, the local business atmosphere in Hong Kong is expected to be supported as the economy continues to expand. The Hong Kong government will closely monitor the evolving external environment, including the escalating tensions in the Middle East and the fluctuating economic and trade policies of major economies.
