In February, the passenger traffic decreased by 720 million person-times compared to the previous month, a decrease of 25%, and decreased by 230 million person-times compared to the same period last year, a decrease of 9.6%. The average passenger transport intensity of the total operating mileage in the country in February was 0.659 thousand person-times per kilometer per day.
According to data from the Ministry of Transport, in February 2026, a total of 54 cities in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps opened and operated 345 urban rail transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 11,778.2 kilometers. There were a total of 3.35 million train trips, serving 2.17 billion passengers, and 1.3 billion passengers entered the stations. In February, compared to the previous month, the passenger volume decreased by 720 million, a 25% decrease, and compared to the same period last year, it decreased by 230 million, a 9.6% decrease. The average passenger density of the national total operating mileage in February was 0.659 million passengers per kilometer per day.
Among them, 43 cities operated 283 subway and light rail lines, with a total operating mileage of 10,188.6 kilometers, serving 2.09 billion passengers with 1.25 billion entering the stations; 18 cities operated 27 monorail, maglev, and urban rapid rail transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 1,032.9 kilometers, serving 715.4 million passengers with 473.2 million entering the stations; 19 cities operated 35 tram and automatic guideway transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 556.7 kilometers, serving 9.24 million passengers with 8.87 million entering the stations.
This month saw an additional operating mileage of 10.9 kilometers and one new operating section added, which is the extension of Chongqing Rail Transit Line 4.
