Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company known for adhering to AI safety guidelines, has recently relaxed its core security policies, stating that this adjustment is necessary to maintain competitiveness.
The company had previously promised in its "Responsible Expansion Policy" released in 2023 to postpone the development of any AI systems that may pose risks. However, in a blog post published this Tuesday, Anthropic announced updates to its policy rules, making it clear that if the company does not believe it has a significant competitive advantage over its competitors, it will no longer unilaterally delay the development process.
Anthropic admitted in the blog post: "The current policy environment has shifted towards prioritizing the competitiveness and economic growth of artificial intelligence, and at the federal level, discussions about security have yet to make substantial progress."
With a current valuation of $380 billion, Anthropic is actively competing for market share among businesses and everyday users, engaging in fierce competition with giants such as OpenAI, Google, and Elon Musk's xAI Corp. in order to dominate in this revolutionary new technology field in the eyes of many.
A spokesperson for Anthropic stated: "From the beginning, we have recognized that the pace of AI development and the uncertainties in the field require us to iterate quickly and continually improve our policies."
