During the Lunar New Year holiday this year (from February 14th to February 23rd), the Hong Kong Immigration Department estimates that there will be about 11.38 million people (including Hong Kong residents and visitors) entering and exiting Hong Kong through various sea, land, and air control points. After consultation between the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the mainland authorities such as the Shenzhen Immigration Inspection General Station, it is estimated that about 9.52 million people will pass through various land border control points to enter and exit Hong Kong. The peak period for land exit is expected to be on February 14th (Saturday), with approximately 636,000 people exiting, while the peak period for entry is expected to be on February 22nd (Sunday), with approximately 663,000 people entering. The Hong Kong Immigration Department expects the Lo Wu Control Point, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point, and Shenzhen Bay Control Point to be very busy during the holiday period, with an average of about 200,000, 187,000, and 156,000 people entering and exiting daily. During this Lunar New Year holiday, the current customs clearance times at various ports will be maintained. The Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang Port and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Port will remain open 24 hours as usual. To manage the flow of passengers during the holiday period, the Immigration Department has reduced frontline staff leave, in order to flexibly deploy manpower, open additional inspection counters, temporary counters, and channels to guide the flow of people and vehicles. At the same time, security personnel will be increased to assist in maintaining orderly passenger clearance. Moreover, the Hong Kong Immigration Department will establish a joint command center at the Lo Wu Control Point with the Hong Kong Police, Hong Kong Customs, and the MTR Corporation to make appropriate deployments and take necessary measures. They will also closely liaise with mainland departments such as the Shenzhen Immigration Inspection General Station, closely monitor the flow of people, and take appropriate diversion measures as needed to ensure smooth and orderly clearance of passengers.
