Meta (META.US) activates "Cash Power" mode: $10 billion invested in Indiana, construction of the largest AI data center begins.
Meta Platforms will invest over 10 billion dollars in Lebanon, Indiana in the United States to build a giant data center known as the "Domino Project."
Meta Platforms Inc. (META.US) officially announced on February 11, 2026, that it will invest over 10 billion US dollars in building a giant data center with the codename "Project Domino" in Lebanon, Indiana, USA, making it one of the largest single artificial intelligence infrastructure investments by the company to date.
Meta broke ground in Lebanon on Wednesday, with the park expected to provide 1 gigawatt of power to potentially support its artificial intelligence projects and core social media business. According to Rachel Peterson, Vice President of Data Centers at Meta, the data center will cover approximately 1,500 acres with a total building area of 4 million square feet, and is expected to be operational by the end of 2027 or early 2028. Meta is expected to invest 10 billion US dollars in the Lebanon park over the next few years.
Peterson stated in an interview that the scale of Meta's investment in the Lebanon park makes it one of the largest data center investment projects by the company to date. The project is part of Meta's key projects list along with the "Hyperion" park in Louisiana and the "Prometheus" park in Ohio.
From a strategic perspective, this move is a key part of Meta's ambitious "600 billion US dollars US infrastructure investment plan." Faced with pressure from Alphabet Inc. Class C (GOOGL.US) and Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) in the field of computing power, Meta is adopting a defensive strategy of "building ahead of demand" to ensure that it does not fall behind in the development of next-generation Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) due to hardware constraints. Although the initial estimated budget for the project was only 800 million US dollars, the investment scale has grown exponentially over the years as global demand for high-performance computing has surged, demonstrating management's determination to invest in the AI race.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has prioritized artificial intelligence as the company's primary focus, investing heavily to build the infrastructure he believes is necessary to win the artificial intelligence competition.
The new Indiana park will be Meta's second data center investment in the state. While driving technological progress, Meta has also made systematic commitments to the local economy and environment in Indiana. During the construction period, it is expected to create over 4,000 construction jobs, and provide 300 high-paying technical jobs once completed.
To address the public pressure caused by high energy consumption, Meta has pledged that the center will be powered by 100% renewable energy and will utilize advanced closed-loop water cooling systems to reduce water consumption. In addition, Meta plans to invest 120 million US dollars to improve local infrastructure and establish a special community fund to offset potential energy cost fluctuations for local residents, striving to achieve a balance between rapid expansion and sustainable development.
Last month, Meta stated that it expects capital expenditures to reach as high as 135 billion US dollars this year, covering artificial intelligence infrastructure projects- far exceeding their spending levels in 2025. The company has over 30 data center clusters, either operational or currently under construction.
