Hong Kong Property: It is expected that there may be a chance to challenge 6,000 residential property registrations in January, which will be the second highest number in six months.
Director Wang Pin-di of the Hong Kong Real Estate Research Department indicated that according to the latest data from the Land Registry, a total of 4006 residential properties (including first-hand private housing, second-hand private housing, and second-hand public housing) were registered from January up to the 20th. It is expected that the total number for the entire month may have the potential to reach 6000, which would be the second highest in half a year.
Director Wang Pindi of the Property Research Department in Hong Kong stated that according to the latest data from the Land Registry, there were 4006 residential property registrations from January to date (as of the 20th). It is expected that there will be a total of around 6000 registrations for the entire month, reaching a six-month high. Compared to the 3850 registrations in January of last year, the number is expected to increase by over 50%.
Considering the time needed from signing the sales contract to submitting it for registration at the Land Registry, the cases registered in January 2026 mainly reflect the market conditions in December 2025.
If we divide the residential property registrations in different districts from this month until now (including first-hand private, second-hand private, and second-hand public housing) by year-on-year performance, there were 702 registrations in the Hong Kong Island district, an increase of about 51.3% from the 464 registrations in the same period last year; 1577 registrations in the Kowloon district, an increase of about 84.4% from the 855 registrations in the same period last year; and 1727 registrations in the New Territories district, the highest among the three districts, an increase of about 24.9% from the 1383 registrations in the same period last year.
