In December, the number of passengers increased by 100 million compared to the previous month, a growth of 3.5%. Compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of 120 million passengers, a growth of 4.3%.
According to data from the Ministry of Transport, by December 2025, a total of 54 cities in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps) have opened and operated 343 urban rail transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 11,710.3 kilometers. There were 3.78 million train services, carrying a total of 2.93 billion passengers and 1.74 billion passengers entering the stations. In December, compared to the previous month, passenger volume increased by 100 million, up 3.5%, and compared to the same month last year, it increased by 120 million, up 4.3%. The average passenger transport intensity for the total national operating mileage in December was 0.824 million passengers per kilometer per day.
Among them, 43 cities have opened and operated 282 subway and light rail lines, with a total operating mileage of 10,142.3 kilometers, carrying a total of 2.83 billion passengers, with 1.67 billion passengers entering the stations. 17 cities have opened and operated 26 monorail, maglev, and urban rapid rail transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 1,011.3 kilometers, carrying 86.97 million passengers, with 58.38 million passengers entering the stations. 19 cities have opened and operated 35 tram and automated guideway transit lines, with a total operating mileage of 556.7 kilometers, carrying 10.88 million passengers, with 10.31 million passengers entering the stations.
This month saw an increase of 320.6 kilometers in operating mileage, with 9 new operating lines, including Beijing Metro Line 18, Hefei Metro Line 6 Phase I, Jinan Metro Line 4 Phase I, Line 6 East Section, Line 8 Phase I, Jinzhou Tram Line, Chengdu Metro Line 13 Phase I, Line 30 Phase I, and Xi'an Metro Line 15 Phase I. There were also 11 new operating segments, including the middle section of Beijing Metro Line 17, the south extension of Line 6, Shanghai Metro Line 18 Phase II, Nanjing Metro Line 3 Phase III, Line 10 Phase II, Fuzhou Metro Line 4 Back Section, Guangzhou Metro Line 22 Back Section, Shenzhen Metro Line 5 West Extension, Line 8 Phase III, Line 11 Phase II Red Ridge South Section, and Line 13 Phase I North Section.
