On November 28th, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) released data on China's external securities investment assets as of the end of June 2025, broken down by country/region and by the sector of resident holders.
On November 28th, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange released data on China's external securities investment assets by country/region and by sector of the holding residents as of June 2025. The statistics show that as of June 2025, China's external securities investment assets (excluding reserve assets) were $1.6942 trillion. Of this, equity investments were $1.0763 trillion, and bond investments were $0.6179 trillion. The top five countries/regions in terms of asset distribution were Hong Kong, the United States, the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, and the United Kingdom, with investments of $0.8161 trillion, $0.3307 trillion, $0.1252 trillion, $0.672 trillion, and $0.392 trillion respectively. As of June 2025, the main sectors holding China's external securities assets were non-bank financial institutions, banks, and non-financial sectors, with investments of $0.9584 trillion, $0.4728 trillion, and $0.2629 trillion, accounting for 57%, 28%, and 16% of China's total external securities investments, respectively.
