According to the German newspaper "Bild-Zeitung", the European Commission is planning a proposal to ban rental car companies and large corporations from purchasing non-electric vehicles for their fleets starting in 2030. The report cited unnamed EU sources, stating that under the proposed plan, companies like Sixt SE and Europcar Mobility Group SA will only be allowed to buy electric vehicles from 2030 onwards. The report quoted a Brussels parliamentarian as saying that if the plan is implemented, it will affect 60% of new car transactions. "Bild-Zeitung" also reported that the European Commission plans to submit the proposal by the end of this summer - which would effectively accelerate the EU's phase-out of internal combustion engine cars, with the proposal then going for parliamentary approval. The EU currently plans to gradually stop selling internal combustion engine cars by 2035.
