The U.S. Department of Transportation cracks down on the Mexican aviation industry.
On the 19th, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Daffy announced a series of measures against Mexican aviation operators, citing that the Mexican government had adjusted the landing and takeoff arrangements at its capital airport a few years ago, which harmed the interests of American aviation companies and violated the bilateral aviation agreement between the two countries. The U.S. threatened that if Mexico continues this practice, the U.S. may refuse to approve flight applications from Mexican operators. According to the announcement from the U.S. Department of Transportation on the 19th, the U.S. requested Mexican airlines to submit all flight arrangements involving passenger and cargo transportation to the U.S. Department of Transportation, and that large charter operations entering and leaving the U.S. would require prior approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The U.S. also threatened to revoke antitrust immunity for the cooperation between American airline Delta Airlines and Mexican airline companies.
