Typhoon "Wipha", the sixth typhoon of the year, made landfall along the coast of Taishan City, Guangdong Province around 5:50 pm today. At the time of landfall, the maximum wind near the center was at 12 on the Beaufort scale, and the minimum central pressure was 975 hPa. After landfall, "Wipha" weakened from typhoon level to strong tropical storm level. At 6 pm, the center was located within Taishan City, Guangdong Province, at 21.8 degrees north latitude and 112.6 degrees east longitude. The maximum wind near the center was at 11 on the Beaufort scale, and the minimum central pressure was 980 hPa.
