This year's 6th typhoon "Weipa" was located at 8:00 on July 20th with its center at 21.7 degrees north latitude and 114.7 degrees east longitude, which is about 450 kilometers northeast of Wenchang City in Hainan Province in the northeast of the South China Sea. The maximum wind force near the center is level 12. It is expected to move in a westerly direction at a speed of about 25 kilometers per hour, and the intensity will increase. It is expected to make landfall along the coast from Zhuhai to Zhanjiang in Guangdong in the afternoon to night of the 20th. Under its influence, within the next 24 hours, the average wind force on the coastal land of Sanya City will gradually increase to level 6-7, with gusts reaching levels 8-9, with strong thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in some areas. The Sanya Meteorological Observatory issued a typhoon blue warning at 08:29 on July 20, 2025. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Sanya Flood Control, Wind Control, Drought Control, and Emergency Response Plan, the Municipal Flood Control, Wind Control, and Drought Control and Safety Committee decided to activate Level IV flood and wind emergency response at 09:00 on July 20, 2025, and the previously activated Level IV emergency response for typhoon prevention at sea automatically terminated.
