"Weipa" has been upgraded to typhoon level.

The reporter learned from the meteorological department of Hainan Province that this year's sixth typhoon, "Wipha," was upgraded from a strong tropical storm to a typhoon at 23:00 on the 19th. Its center is located at 21.5 degrees north latitude and 116.7 degrees east longitude, about 620 kilometers northeast of Wenchang City, Hainan Province, in the northeastern part of the South China Sea. The maximum wind force near the center is level 12. It is expected that "Wipha" will move in a west-northwesterly direction at a speed of about 25 kilometers per hour, gradually strengthening, approaching the coastal areas from Zhuhai, Guangdong to Wenchang, Hainan, and making landfall on the coastal areas in the afternoon to evening of the 20th, crossing the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong on the 21st, moving into the Beibu Gulf during the day on the 21st, and then heading towards the northern coast of Vietnam.
