Delivery app competition temporarily paused? Tested: Free milk tea on Saturdays is gone.
Open multiple food delivery apps and found that there are temporarily no free milk tea offers this weekend. Although various platforms are still issuing coupons, the discounts are clearly not as generous as the past two weekends. Many netizens on social media are also lamenting, "The big food delivery coupons are really gone!" In fact, the suspension of this weekend's "food delivery battle" was already anticipated. On July 18, the State Administration for Market Regulation summoned the three platform companies of Ele.me, Meituan, and JD.com, demanding that they strictly comply with the laws and regulations such as the E-commerce Law, Anti-Unfair Competition Law, and Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China, strictly fulfill their main responsibilities, further regulate promotional activities, participate in competition rationally, and jointly build a good ecosystem for consumers, merchants, food delivery riders, and platform companies to win-win, promote the standardized and healthy sustainable development of the catering service industry. On the evening of July 16, Wang Puzhong, the core local business CEO of Meituan, also publicly responded to the "food delivery battle" for the first time, saying, "Discounts are meaningless and harmful to the industry." He called for the industry to return to rationality and fair competition.
