The groundbreaking ceremony for the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River hydropower project was held on the morning of July 19th in Nyingchi City, Tibet Autonomous Region. Li Keqiang, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Premier of the State Council, attended the groundbreaking ceremony and announced the official start of the project. At around 9 a.m. on the same day, the groundbreaking ceremony was held at the dam site of the Milin Hydropower Station in Nyingchi City. Representatives from the National Development and Reform Commission, the project owner China Yarlung Tsangpo Group, the project research, testing, and construction unit China Power Construction, and key officials from the Tibet Autonomous Region delivered speeches. Li Keqiang announced the start of the project, officially kicking off the construction. Wu Zhaolong presided over the groundbreaking ceremony. Relevant departments of the central and state organs, leaders of relevant central enterprises, members of the expert advisory committee for the construction of the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River hydropower project, project research, testing, and construction units, and local representatives attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River hydropower project is located in Nyingchi City, Tibet Autonomous Region. The project mainly adopts the development method of cutting bends and tunnels for water diversion, and will construct 5 cascade power stations with a total investment of about 1.2 trillion yuan. The project's electricity will mainly be transmitted outwards for consumption, while also meeting the local demand in Tibet.
