Since mid-May this year, Spain has been continuously experiencing heatwaves, and the latest data from the Ministry of Health shows that as of July 19, a total of 1,180 people in the country have died from heat-related illnesses. This number is significantly higher than the 114 deaths during the same period last year, with an increase of over tenfold. The Spanish Meteorological Agency has stated that the intensity of high temperatures this summer is rare, with temperatures reaching as high as 46 degrees Celsius in some southern regions. Even in traditionally cooler areas like Galicia and Asturias in the north, temperatures have exceeded 35 degrees Celsius. In just the past two months, the meteorological department has issued 76 red heat alerts, compared to none during the same period last year.
