Dimitar Radev, the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, will start participating in the setting of interest rates for the eurozone from next year. Radev stated that the European Central Bank must pay more attention to politics than in the past. Recent events have highlighted the dangers lurking beyond tariffs, with France's massive efforts to restore public finances further pressuring its already weak government, and Trump repeatedly criticizing Powell. Radev said: "Politics is increasingly becoming a source of volatility, uncertainty, and systemic risk, something that central banks must consider when assessing, whether it be domestic or global political developments. Now, it is part of the risk environment we are in." Radev believes that the European Central Bank's deposit rate of 2% is "within or very close to the neutral range," any further adjustments will be cautious and based on upcoming data. Radev will begin attending European Central Bank meetings as an observer starting from September this year.
