Commercial building fire has resulted in the death of over 60 people. The Iraqi Prime Minister declared a national mourning for three days.

On July 17th local time, Iraqi Prime Minister and Chief Commander of the Armed Forces, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, chaired a special meeting of the National Security Council and announced a three-day national mourning to honor the victims of the supermarket fire in Wasit Province. On the night of the 16th, a five-story commercial building in the provincial capital of Kut, Iraq caught fire, resulting in the death of over 60 people. Rescue operations are still ongoing.
