Advance emergency procurement project Israel announced an additional $12.5 billion defense budget.
On July 17th local time, the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Finance reached an agreement on the budget dispute caused by the conflict between Israel and Iran, as well as the military operation involving the "Gideon Tank". The two ministries issued a joint statement on that day, announcing an additional budget of 42 billion new Israeli shekels for defense between 2025 and 2026. According to the agreement, this funding will be used to advance urgent and critical defense procurement projects, supplement material reserves consumed in combat, and pay for the costs incurred by the mass mobilization of reserve soldiers. The related appropriations will begin to be implemented in 2025 and will be completed in 2026. It is reported that because the Israeli domestic political situation has not yet determined the budget for 2026, the related bill has not been officially passed, but all parties have reached an agreement on the implementation framework. In addition, the joint statement pointed out that this additional budget only responds to the current operational needs and does not include additional expenditures to strengthen daily border security.
