Former Chairman of HNA Group Chen Feng sentenced to 12 years in first-instance trial, convicted of multiple charges and sentenced concurrently.

After being subjected to coercive measures for nearly four years on suspicion of illegal activities, the first-instance verdict of Chen Feng, former chairman of Hainan Airlines Group, was issued recently. Chen Feng was convicted of multiple crimes and sentenced to 12 years in prison in the first instance, fined 221 million RMB, and had 400 million RMB of personal property confiscated. Also sentenced in the same case were Sun Mingyu, former supervisor of Hainan Airlines Group, and Bao Qifa, former chairman of Hainan Airlines Group. Chen Feng was taken into coercive measures in September 2021 for suspected illegal activities; while Sun Mingyu and Bao Qifa were taken away by the police from the Hainan Airlines Building in March 2022 and subjected to coercive measures on the same day. Insiders revealed that Chen Feng was punished for crimes of breach of trust causing harm to the interests of a listed company, fraudulently obtaining loans, and embezzlement, with fines of 216 million RMB, 5 million RMB, and confiscation of personal property amounting to 400 million RMB. He was also sentenced to 12 years in prison, with the sentence set to end at the end of 2033.
