According to the Lloyd's List, more than 160 mainstream oil tankers have been stranded in the waters of the Persian Gulf for over 100 days since the outbreak of regional conflicts at the end of February. The Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, Limingges, warned on the 9th that sailors should not take risks passing through the Strait of Hormuz for commercial interests. Limingges issued a statement on the 9th expressing concerns about some ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without trustworthy security guarantees. He pointed out that the current situation in the region is still highly volatile and lacks reliable security conditions, and that "safe navigation cannot be guaranteed at all." Limingges emphasized that ship captains and shipping companies have a responsibility to conduct comprehensive risk assessments of their voyages in accordance with the international safety and security management framework. He stated that no commercial or operational factors can be reasons for sailors to bear high risks, and that protecting the safety of sailors' lives must always be the top priority.
