The Chinese Embassy in South Africa issued a security reminder on the 9th, reminding Chinese citizens, enterprises, and institutions in South Africa to strictly operate in compliance with the law and pay high attention to preventing security risks. The reminder stated that in recent times, there have been protests, demonstrations, and petitions targeting foreign nationals in various parts of South Africa, some of which have escalated into disturbances and acts of violence causing casualties and property damage, with some Chinese compatriots' shops affected. The Embassy reminded Chinese citizens, enterprises, and institutions in South Africa to closely monitor the situation, avoid passing through or going to areas where activities are taking place and those with unstable security or dense crowds; enhance security measures comprehensively, take necessary measures such as reducing business and office hours, closing down, dispersing, and taking shelter before, during, and after protests and demonstrations; abide by the law and operate in compliance especially for legal work and employment to avoid becoming targets of protests and demonstrations; respond calmly and rationally to unforeseen events, report to the local police in a timely manner while ensuring own safety and seek assistance from the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and police-civilian center.
