Report: Due to fluctuations in UK government bond yields, new issuances of sterling corporate bonds have slowed.
HSBC credit bond strategist stated in a report that the volatile UK government bond yields have made borrowers hesitant, leading to a slowdown in the issuance of new corporate bonds priced in pounds in recent months. The uncertainty surrounding the UK's economy and exposure to geopolitical shocks have contributed to the high volatility of UK government bond yields. Tradeweb data shows that in mid-May, the 10-year UK government bond yield reached 5.190%, the highest level since 2008. "The higher and more volatile UK government bond yields are making UK borrowers hesitant, as these borrowers are often more sensitive to overall borrowing costs," these strategists stated.
